Pedestrian Friendly Design for Northside School

This two-story school is designed to serve 450 PreK-8 students in the Northside community. In keeping with the pedestrian-friendly streets that are a Northside hallmark, the design limits vehicular access and provides a pedestrian-only connection from Chase Avenue to the north.

The sustainable design features daylight harvesting, occupation sensors, 21 classrooms with large windows and extended learning areas, and a curtain wall in the main entry tower to fill the building with natural light. The school also has separate parent and bus drop-off areas, a media center with reading room, gymnasium with locker rooms, an art room, music room, cafeteria, and computer and science labs.

The 9-acre site is shared with the adjacent recreation center allowing shared use of amenities, creating a hub of educational and recreational activity for the whole community.
