Award-winning LEED Gold station in a residential neighborhood

This LEED Gold fire station was completed in 2010 and replaced an existing fire station on a new site in the historic neighborhood of Forest Park in Springfield, MA. The small, triangular site posed a challenge to the design team who, in response, designed a three-story station to decrease building footprint. The new facility is situated in a historic residential neighborhood and incorporates materials that blend well into the neighborhood context, such as painted siding, a brick base, dimensional shingles and third floor dormers.

This station achieved LEED Gold status by using recycled and local materials, ultra efficient appliances and mechanical equipment, dual flush water closets and low VOC materials. The station features a 24-hour watchroom, a turn-out gear room with 40 lockers, a training/conference room, a kitchen, dining room, dayroom, fitness room and dispatch offices.  This project was completed in partnership with Dore & Whittier Architects.
