LEED Silver facility designed to withstand coastal weather

CR served as the Architect of Record for this three-story facility designed for LEED Silver certification. A replacement of the multi-mission building from the 1920's, this new building houses boat maintenance bays with an overhead crane, office space, training rooms, locker and shower facilities and a break room. The design team gave special consideration to the roof and walls system design to withstand the coastal weather. For hurricane resistance, the new facility includes a 75 foot deep pile foundation system, breakaway walls below the flood elevation and building utilities and mechanical systems located above the flood level.

Sustainable design initiatives include heat island reduction for the roof and site, 40% reduction of water usage for the plumbing systems, use of recycled content and local materials and reduced construction waste.
