Project Type: Sustainability
Location: North Avondale, OH
This 84,000 sf school was completed in 2010 and is designed to nurture up to 650 students ages three to twelve in hands-on learning classrooms. Extended learning areas were also designed to stimulate the powers of student imagination and reason. This sustainable school has a LEED Gold certification goal and replaces the existing 1947 building to better serve the Montessori school students. The design team aligns their philosophy with the school's strong emphasis on the visual and performing arts, and the design of the exterior and interior space reflects it. Classrooms allow for the grouping of children by ability and age, not grades. Therefore, classrooms accommodate children ages three to six, six to nine and nine to twelve. The school also connects to the existing North Avondale Community Recreation Center, operated by the City of Cincinnati.
