If you get to know our people, you’ll get to know CR. After all, it’s the collective sum of our unique talents, diverse backgrounds and individual life experiences that inspires our clients to place their trust in us. So we’re kicking off our CReativityAtWork Q&A series with Craig Heilmann, an Associate on our Education team.

Q: What projects are you currently working on?
A: I am on the Education team and am currently working on three residence hall renovations at Miami University.

Q: If you weren’t in the architecture field, what would you be doing?
A: I would be a physical therapist. Physical health is important to me and I enjoy helping others.

Q: What’s something not many people know about you?
A: I was a long jumper in high school and posted a personal best of over 22 feet.

Q: What’s your favorite CR memory?
A: It has to be last year’s holiday party. I was new to the firm and the party was a great way to get to know people on a personal level.

Q: Do you have any advice for architecture students or young professionals?
A: Don’t rely on others to always give you the answers. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new. Take advantage of these opportunities and don’t be afraid to fail.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in Cincinnati?
A: I love staying active. The weather doesn’t always make this easy, but forces you to be creative which can be fun as well.

Q: What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
A: Having the opportunity to inhabit spaces that once only existed in our thoughts and on paper.

Q: What’s the last book you read, show you watched or podcast you listened to?
A: My wife and I recently finished the Netflix series ‘The Haunting of Hill House.’ It’s a must watch!
